Frequently asked questions about solar energy (FAQ)

Thanks to the interest that solar energy brings and all savings that solar energy generate, many people seek to expand their knowledge in a way in which they can be part of this new alternative energy. In this blog we leave you the answers to the most frequent questions that we are asked about this when wanting to be part of the EnLight Energy family.

How do solar panels work?

Solar panels absorb solar energy generating a photovoltaic effect which translates into electrical energy that can be used, stored or even sold back to the grid for an extra credit!

How many solar panels do I need for my home?

There are several factors that affect the amount needed, however, at EnLight Energy we give you a free home examination to determine how many solar panels you need.

Do solar panels have a lifespan?

Solar panels, on average, last around 25-30 years. However, this does not mean that they stop working completely after 25 years - rather that energy production can be reduced by 10-15%. In reality, solar panels and systems do not stop producing energy unless they are physically damaged by winds, shocks, or external factors. This is because solar panels don't have any moving parts, therefore they do not break from the inside. In addition, at Enlight.Energy we take full charge of the maintenance and performance checking of the solar panels to maximize energy production.

How much does a solar panel system cost?

Depending on the amount of energy your home needs, panel systems come in different prices. However, there are solar energy plans, such as loans, rentals, or power purchase arrangements (PPA) that helps the monthly cost of electricity typically be lower than the current cost. Since solar energy is much easier to generate, it is also cheaper. Then, the homeowner ends up saving much more than keeping up with his utility, and he also helps to generate clean energy.

Will solar panels increase the value of my home?

Like any home improvement, installing a solar energy system can increase the value of your home and make it more attractive to potential buyers. A 2019 study showed that, on average, homes with solar panels sell for 4.1% more than homes without solar panels.

Why should I switch to solar energy?

Since the sun comes out every day, it makes solar energy a completely renewable, reliable and clean source of energy. It reduces our dependence on dirty energy sources such as oil, coal and natural gas, which produce harmful emissions that affect our health and the environment. In addition, solar panels and batteries are increasingly accessible, resistant and efficient. They give us peace of mind and energy security when the power goes out or the next storm is coming. Unlike those of your utility company, homeowners who use solar energy have certainty of the rates they will pay each year, in contrast to the rates they use each year with the average utility. With solar power, you can control your energy future.
